Bali Retreat 2013: Day 2 – Ubud

August 29, 2020

DAY 2: 8 March 2013, Friday

For our second day in Bali, we continued exploring Ubud. We woke up at 9am for a hearty breakfast at our hotel before heading out at 10:40am to visit one of the rice fields at Sari Organik, located about 3km away on foot but about 6km away by car. We hired a car to take us there and the ride took about 15 minutes.

After spending about 45 minutes at the rice fields, we headed back to Ubud town centre for a stroll before having our lunch at Bebek Bengil Crispy Duck, a famous specialty of Ubud. The rest of the day was pretty chill and we also went for a massage in the evening before having dinner at Naughty Nuri’s, which was famous for their pork ribs. To round off the night, we went back to Laughing Buddha Bar again for a round of Mojito’s and more live music.

Enjoy the pictures from Day 2!

Would you like to live here?
The rice fields here are flat…next time, I shall visit the terraced rice fields at Tegalalang
Wore a green top to match the green background
Growing rice requires a lot of water, so it is actually not a very sustainable crop
Colourful kites
Admiring the art
There’s a strange fascination with these phallus-shaped beer bottle openers, and they come in all sizes and colours

More rice fields
Besides being water-intensive, rice growing is also very labour-intensive as the saplings have to be planted by hand
A new resort being constructed
It was an enjoyable visit to the rice fields
Back at Ubud town centre, we chanced upon Saraswati Temple, a Balinese Hindu temple with beautiful lotus ponds
The central pathway is flanked by these water-spouting statues
Beautiful lotus flower in bloom
Bebek Bengil Crispy Duck restaurant in Ubud
Bebek Bengil means “dirty duck diner”. The name came about because a flock of ducks traipsed across the rice fields and left their muddy prints on the restaurant floor just after it was constructed.
Duck spring roll and escargot mushroom for starters
The famous crispy duck…it’s quite tiny and there’s not a lot of meat
Taking a break…the theme for today is green
A refreshing juice to beat the heat
Went for a massage at Alam Wangi, which is also owned by Alam Indah resort group
